SP Group donates 1 billion VND to support families affected by Typhoon Yagi in Vietnam
Hai Phong City, Vietnam, 2nd Oct, 2024 – SP Group (SP) has committed to a donation of 1 billion VND (S$53,000) in support of families who have been displaced by the effects of Typhoon Yagi, The donation, through the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) in Hai Phong City, will provide critical relief in the form of essential supplies and resources for recovery. These will meet immediate needs such as food and shelter, as well as longer-term rebuilding efforts. Supporting vulnerable communities in times of crisis is a mark of SP’s strong commitment to the Vietnam community.
According to Vietnam authorities, Typhoon Yagi is one of the most severe storms in recent history and has caused devastating economic losses. This is projected to reduce the national gross domestic product (GDP) growth by 0.15%, with some regions like Hai Phong and Quang Ninh seeing a 0.50% decrease. The storm and subsequent flooding have also led to more than 300 casualties and have severely damaged 130,268 houses and other infrastructure across multiple provinces.
“We are heartened by SP Group’s donation, which is a timely boost to the community rebuilding efforts in Hai Phong. This support ensures that those affected can recover quickly and return to normalcy. As an organisation that has strong ties with Vietnam, SP will be able to help hundreds get back on their feet after the storm,” said Mr. Dao Trong Duc - Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Hai Phong City.
