SP Group Accelerates Betagro's Clean Energy Transition with Large-Scale Rooftop Solar Deployment

Media Release

Bangkok and Singapore, 25 July 2024 – SP Group is shoring up Asia’s clean energy transition with its latest large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Thailand. The leading utilities group and sustainable energy solutions provider in Asia Pacific and Singapore is partnering Betagro – Thailand's leading integrated food company – on an 8.2 Megawatt Peak (MWp) installation at seven Betagro factories in Lopburi, Nakhon Ratchasima, Songkhla, Lampang and Chachoengsao.

SP will install close to 13,000 solar panels that will generate about 11 Gigawatt-Hours (GWh) of clean energy per year – equivalent to about eight per cent of the total electricity consumed across the seven factories. When operational in Q3 2024, this will enable Betagro to reduce its carbon emissions by 4,400 tons and achieve substantial energy cost savings of about $17 million Thai Baht (or SGD $630,500) annually.

Betagro has been actively pursuing initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint and enhance its environmental stewardship. Committed to responsible business practices, the company has set its sights on leveraging renewable energy sources to power its operations and cut carbon emissions.

“Betagro is a household name in Thailand and we are pleased to partner them on their sustainability journey,” said Mr. Brandon Chia, Managing Director of Southeast Asia & Australia, SP Group. “We see great potential for the food and beverage industry to sustainably power their operations, save energy costs and lower carbon emissions. We look forward to enabling commercial and industrial customers like Betagro to reduce their carbon footprint and achieve their green targets by leveraging our comprehensive suite of solutions and strong operational experience.”

In Thailand to date, SP has solar projects in operation and under construction with key partners such as Asia Composite Material, Compact International, Malee Group and SAICO. These partnerships with companies in various industries have contributed to a reduction of more than 24,000 tons of carbon emissions annually.

In addition, SP has a pipeline of over 200 MWp of solar PV projects across Thailand. The company has scored its first district cooling project in Thailand at Government Complex Centre Zone C, part of its joint venture with Banpu NEXT. SP has also signed a partnership with Rangsit University to deploy a comprehensive suite of integrated and sustainable energy solutions.
